Institute for Performance and Learning (CSTD) 2015 CONFERENCE + TRADE SHOW

Making Leaders Stronger for Organizations and Organizations Stronger for Leaders

November 18 - 3:30-4:30

Jim Clemmer is presenting:
Making Leaders Stronger for Organizations and Organizations Stronger for Leaders
as part of the Institute for Performance and Learning (CSTD) 2015 CONFERENCE + TRADE SHOW
November 18th — 3:30-4:30 – Toronto

Most leadership development programs have little impact on creating lasting behavior change. “Spray and pray” efforts provide one-off learning or development events in the hope that something will stick. It rarely does. The development of “soft leadership skills” are accelerated when they’re intertwined with “hard” management processes and systems. Too often leadership skills development like coaching, team effectiveness, or EI are isolated or theoretical activities. Meanwhile key OD/HR/Learning systems look for gaps/weaknesses to fix.

Stronger leaders create stronger organizations, and stronger organizations create stronger leaders. This generates an interdependent cycle that creates a flywheel effect. We need to do both, together, for sustained and extraordinary performance.

Learning Objectives:

  • Review the latest research on why most leadership skill development efforts fail
  • Understand the critical interdependence of building leader’s skills to strengthen organizational culture and building stronger cultures that nurture and sustain leadership skill development
  • How to move leadership and organization development efforts from bolt-on programs to built-in process
  • Learn how to link leadership development to five vital steps in building a peak performance culture
  • See the latest research on how to build leadership strengths
